Rachel Cagliani, PhD, BCBA-D

Dr. Rachel Cagliani, PhD, BCBA-D is an Associate Professor at the University of Georgia in the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education within the Mary Frances Early College of Education. She teaches multiple courses in the applied behavior analysis and special education programs. She advises master's and Ph.D. students in applied behavior analysis and special education, working closely with resident students at UGA and students affiliated with the Marcus Autism Center. Dr. Cagliani’s research focuses on improving educational and independent living outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Her work includes developing and evaluating accessible toilet training interventions and augmentative and alternative communication instruction that incorporates multiple communication forms. In recognition of her contributions to research and service, Dr. Cagliani received the 2024 Arthur M. Horne Award for Community Engagement and Research. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Cagliani taught in the Georgia public schools across various service continuums and districts. Her commitment to community engagement is evident in her ongoing collaborations with organizations such as several neighboring school systems, Extra Special People, Inc., and Camp Twin Lakes, Inc. She is also the Secretary for Camp SPEAK, a camp designed for children who communicate primarily using augmentative and alternative communication. As Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Cagliani plans to use her platform to actively engage students in GABA, ensuring they feel supported during their academic journeys and beyond. She is particularly passionate about creating resources and opportunities through GABA to combat burnout and retain talented behavior analysts in the field. Her vision is to help students develop strong professional networks and a sense of belonging that will sustain them throughout their careers.
