Staying Current with Policy Issues

To effectively protect the interests of behavior analysts and the individuals they serve, GABA contracts with a professional lobbying firm to represent the field at the Georgia General Assembly and with state agencies. This work is essential because many decisions that affect behavior analytic services, such as licensure laws, Medicaid policy, and insurance coverage, are made through the legislative and regulatory process. Lobbying allows GABA to monitor legislation in real time, provide subject matter expertise to lawmakers, advocate for policies that protect consumers and practitioners, and respond quickly to proposed bills or regulatory changes.

Recent policy actions have included submitting formal letters to legislators in support of bills related to the scope of practice or licensure of behavior analysts in Georgia, meeting with legislators and legislative staff to inform them about key differences in behavior analytic qualification pathways, informing consumers about bills that may affect them or their families, and collaborating with allied professional organizations on shared policy goals.
